Yamaha GSM-1450 Grand Symphonic Concert Snare Drums
Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, will display its Grand Symphonic Concert Snare Drums at Winter NAMM 2006.
Designed in conjunction with world-renowned percussionists, the Grand Symphonic Series incorporates new innovation in the form of the Triple Snare System (TSS) and three-piece Tubular Tension Casings.
The Triple Snare System provides three individually tensionable snares, allowing performers to fine tune their sound. The three-piece Tubular Tension Casings are mounted to the nodal point in the shell, optimizing shell vibration; the end pieces are made of zinc die-cast; and the middle tube is made of steel and locked in place by two set screws.
A 3.5mm-deep snare bed allows more of the snare to come into contact with the shell, giving the drums increased sensitivity and articulation, while a double-cut 35/45 degree edge ensures fast transfer of the vibration throughout the shell, heightening sensitivity and warmth.
Four snare types are available: Black Nylon Coated Cable, Stainless Steel Cable, Brass Coiled Wire and High Carbon Steel Coiled Wire.

The GSM-1450 and GSM-1465 feature shells made of 10 ply Maple with diagonally cut seams, increasing the warmth and articulation of the drum. The GSR-1450 features a shell of stave-constructed Rosewood for a unique tonal pallet. Rosewood is most commonly used in marimbas, and Yamaha is the first company to offer a stave constructed Rosewood shell. This type of construction accounts for the solid feel. All three snares use Yamaha’s patented Air-Seal System to keep the shell perfectly round and dependable.
The GSM-1450 will available in February.
