Jim Beam Rock Band Search : Fifth Annual National Talent Competition
Deerfield, Ill., Rock and roll has called various cities home throughout time, from the first sight of glam-rock in L.A., to the birth of grunge in Seattle, to the hotbed of indie music in Austin, Texas. Now, Jim Beam Bourbon is offering bands from the nation's hottest music meccas the chance to prove their scene is the latest "it" town and claim the title of "Best Unsigned Band in America."
The fifth annual Jim Beam Rock Band Search is a national talent contest that gives unsigned musicians the chance to compete for a five-market tour aboard the Jim Beam tour bus, as well as a $2,000 equipment budget and a limited-edition Jim Beam customized guitar from Gibson.
Call-For-Entry Bands from around the country are invited to submit an official entry form, along with a biography, band photo, and CD, audiocassette or VHS tape containing a minimum of two original songs written and performed by the contestants. Entries will be judged on originality, musicianship, song writing, overall appeal and potential to succeed as a band.
Regional Competitions From qualifying entries, 25 bands will be chosen to compete in one of the five regional competitions set to take place in Chicago; Denver; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Phoenix; and Providence, R.I.; in July. Each band will perform a 15-minute set of original music in front of a live audience and a judging panel of music industry executives and local radio representatives. The winning band from each regional competition will receive a trip to compete against the other regional winners at the Jim Beam Rock Band Search Finals at The Gothic Theatre in Denver on Friday, August 24.

With a stellar set that electrified the judges and audience, Yo, Flaco! out-performed four other bands at the 2000 national competition to win the fourth annual Jim Beam Rock Band Search. This groovy eight-piece mixes hip-hop, acid jazz, funk and R&B into its eclectic sound. During the past few months, the band opened for G. Love and Special Sauce, Tonic, and the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band at the Rock The Rackhouse concert at the Jim Beam distillery, and showcased at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. Yo, Flaco! will mix it up once again as headliners of this year's Jim Beam Rock Band Search national finals at the Gothic in Denver on August 24. The Jim Beam Rock Band Search is a part of B.E.A.M. (Benefiting Emerging Artists in Music), a unique program funded by Jim Beam Bourbon that provides financial assistance and other resources for emerging musicians. The B.E.A.M. program offers $100,000 in grants to unsigned musicians, as well as opportunities through the Jim Beam Country and Rock Band Searches. In addition, music fans are discovering some of the best emerging national and local talent in Jim Beam Back room venues around the country.
