Red Moon Productions cuts feature-length film on Matrox DigiSuite realtime editing platforAshes to Ashes screened at London's Raindance Film FestivalStoke Poges, UK, December 17, 1999 - Matrox Video Products Group today announced that a recent production premiering in London's 1999 Raindance Film Festival was edited entirely on the Matrox DigiSuite realtime editing platform. Using over 12 hours of raw digital video footage, Red Moon Productions brought the 90-minute feature-length film titled Ashes to Ashes to screen at this showcase for the work of independent film makers. Ashes to Ashes is a raw, humorous, 90s action thriller involving romance, lust, greed, betrayal, the Chinese Triads, martial arts, the Italian Mafia and male escorts. It is an uncompromising story of a struggling screenwriter who finds himself fighting for his life after a brief encounter with the mistress of an underworld boss. Ashes to Ashes was shot in 16:9 widescreen Sony Betacam SX digital video format, with the intention of going to film for the final production. Using a Matrox DigiSuite platform, the digital video was captured to disk for editing. "It was critical for me to maintain the video in the 16:9 aspect ratio that the final product would have and preserve the picture quality we started with," said Wayne Trotman, Writer, Director and Co-producer, Red Moon Productions. That's where DigiSuite came into play. It let me work with the digital video in 16:9 at full uncompressed quality. The end result was the high-quality 35 mm film that was screened at the 1999 Raindance Film Festival in London." Trotman, new to nonlinear digital video editing, used in-sync Speed Razor RT and Matrox DigiSuite to work in real time, quickly adding transitions and effects to his film. "Well, it certainly was easy to get the hang of Speed Razor and the DigiSuite plug-ins, although it took a little time to become as productive and fast as the Matrox hardware made possible," said Trotman. "But being in a nonlinear domain meant I could re-work anything I wasn't totally happy with, as my knowledge and abilities progressed."
